Job Decision

Well, I received another job offer today from Tessella, a company in Abingdon which I went to for interview yesterday. I also had the offer from Senokian in Coventry (at which Paul works).

I had to make a tough decision as both companies had their plus points, but I am pleased to say that I made the decision to start work with Senokian. It’s going to be a fun time I think and I’m very pleased to be working with Paul and Jake. I think that there’s lots of potential there and I can hopefully bring something to the company.

So, I’ll be starting sometime in September I should think. Now just have to work out where Helen and I will be living! (Probably at 9 Knoll Croft for a while and then see from there).

Application update

Oooookay, so this week has been ridiculously busy for me so far. I’ve had an interview on Monday and Tuesday, with another one today. They’ve been going really well and the one yesterday invited me back for a 2nd interview only 30 minutes after finishing the first! So that was pretty good.

I’ve got one offer so far and it’s looking good for the others. Decisions, decisions, decisions… why does it have to be so hard!

It’s not really all that fun filling in application forms and going to interviews, but I’ve been very busy in the past week doing these things and it’s not getting any quieter! I’ve got interviews on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week and I’ve got 2 other applications in which might require interviews soon, so it really is all go at the moment!

But today I met with Paul where he works, Senokian, and we had a chat about jobs. That was really good because Senokian seem to be moving into an area of the industry which I am very excited and keen to get into - networking. There’s so much potential there at the moment what with internet services booming and I think it’s going to be a very positive place to be for the next few years. So, we’ll see what comes of that. Would be awesome to work with Paul, even if he would be my boss!

Anyway, we’ll see…

On Sunday, Helen and I went to Cambridge to meet up with a few friends and see my sister. It was a really nice time as we spent the time as tourists by going punting and wandering around the shops (although not slowly like the stupid tourists that wander around at 0.01mph!). It was great to relax and enjoy the place.

Now we’re back in Witney with Helen’s family which is great, but it has also meant we’ve had to start doing job searching again. I’ve just finished putting together my CV which I’ve managed to send off to a couple of places. Also, Paul is kindly helping me put together a new design for my online CV website, so hopefully that will be live soon.

Anyway, is it really worth getting a job when the stresses of writing CVs, covering letters and then sending them off by far outweighs the fun that can be had on a day visiting a lovely town in England? I think really I do want to get a job soon though… just still looking for that perfect job!

I’ve finally finished sorting out my CV (barring the odd small change or two) and now am in a position to send it off to some companies to see if I can get some interviews and then maybe some job offers.

There’s a couple of companies I’ve liked the look of, so I think they are good places to start and then I’ll just see what happens from there. I’m looking at engineering consultants and general engineering companies at the moment, but it’s just so hard to find a company that looks like they’ll be doing the sort of work I want to go into.

But anyway, wish me luck for finding something!

Job hunting

As many people will know, having just come back from 10 months of travelling, I’m actively searching for a job. Well, to be more precise, a career. It’s been a bit of a struggle at the moment because I have had one offer but I turned it down because it’s not really what I want to do long term and they want me to start ASAP, when what I really want to do is have some time over the summer to really decide what I want to do.

I’ve been really looking into the world of technology & engineering and found a few interesting companies, but none really stick out to me. The other option is setting up a business, which is something I’d really like to do, but I think it’s a project for the future.

Anyway, I’m going to apply to a few companies and see what they have to offer.
